MIT records that on 9 October 2007 it launched a major cancer initiative supported by his $100 million gift, which became the David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, deliberately mixing engineers with cancer biologists to work on drug delivery, nanomedicine, imaging and immunology. In 2015 Memorial Sloan Kettering announced a record $150 million gift from him for the David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care, a 23-storey outpatient building on the East River. He also funded the David H. Koch Cancer Research Building at Johns Hopkins, a genitourinary cancer research centre at MD Anderson and the Prostate Cancer Foundation, on whose board he sat.
