It publishes original articles, reviews, short communications, commentaries and letters to the editor across molecular biology, pharmacology, tumour biology and clinical treatment (surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, pathology and epidemiology) insofar as they concern metastasis formation, prevention and treatment. Case studies are accepted only exceptionally, correlative clinical studies with small patient numbers must include experimental validation, and laboratory work is expected to provide mechanistic insight with validation in animal models. The homepage lists a hybrid publishing model. NLM records the title from 1983 (originally Taylor & Francis, later Kluwer Academic), published ten times a year since 1999 and indexed in MEDLINE.
