## TL;DR

Launched in 2024 with over $1 billion to build AI-native drug discovery from Baker-lab protein design.

## Summary

Xaira Therapeutics, based in South San Francisco, launched in 2024 with more than a billion dollars to build AI-native drug discovery from the protein design methods of the Baker laboratory. Co-founded with David Baker and Marc Tessier-Lavigne, it integrates de novo protein design, large-scale perturbation biology and antibody generation. OnCo links it to the Institute for Protein Design and to the RFdiffusion and ProteinMPNN technology record. Whether the largest AI drug discovery launch produces a clinical candidate faster than conventional biotechs is the question its funding invites. The Institute for Protein Design has its own page.
