## TL;DR

Timothy Ley led the first whole-genome sequencing of a cancer, an AML genome, in 2008.

## Summary

Timothy J. Ley is the Lewis T. and Rosalind B. Apple Professor of Oncology at Siteman Cancer Center, Washington University. He is a haematologist-scientist who led the first whole-genome sequencing of a cancer, an acute myeloid leukaemia genome, in 2008, and went on to discover recurrent DNMT3A and IDH mutations in AML and to define clonal evolution at relapse. His selected papers report DNA sequencing of a cytogenetically normal AML genome and DNMT3A mutations in AML. He continues to work on AML genomics and clonal evolution.
