## TL;DR

Discovered the JAK2 mutation behind most myeloproliferative neoplasms and defined the genetics of clonal haematopoiesis.

## Summary

Ross L. Levine is Chair of the Center for Hematologic Malignancies and a Member of the Human Oncology and Pathogenesis Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is a physician-scientist known for discovering the JAK2 V617F mutation behind most myeloproliferative neoplasms and for defining the genetics of clonal haematopoiesis through TET2, ASXL1 and other mutations. His selected paper reports the activating JAK2 mutation in polycythaemia vera, essential thrombocythaemia and myeloid metaplasia with myelofibrosis. His laboratory continues to study how these mutations drive leukaemia evolution.
