## TL;DR

Discovered the tumour-suppressor gene PTEN, one of the most frequently lost genes in cancer.

## Summary

Ramon E. Parsons is Director of the Tisch Cancer Institute and Chair of the Department of Oncological Sciences at The Mount Sinai Hospital. He is known for discovering the tumour-suppressor gene PTEN in 1997, one of the most frequently lost genes in cancer, and has since defined its roles in PI3K signalling and cancer predisposition. His selected paper reports PTEN as a putative protein tyrosine phosphatase gene mutated in human brain, breast and prostate cancer. He now directs Mount Sinai's cancer institute while continuing work on PTEN, PI3K and AKT signalling.
