## TL;DR

Showed that immune cells inside breast tumours predict outcome, the basis for de-escalating chemotherapy in TNBC.

## Summary

Sherene Loi is Professor and Head of the Translational Breast Cancer Genomics and Therapeutics Laboratory at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, where she is also a medical oncologist. Her work on tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes established them as a prognostic and predictive biomarker in breast cancer, showing that immune cells inside tumours predict outcome and underpinning current efforts to spare patients with stage I triple-negative breast cancer from chemotherapy. Her publications include a pooled individual patient analysis of tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes and prognosis in early-stage triple-negative breast cancer. She leads immunotherapy trials, including work connected to KEYNOTE-522, and chairs the International Immuno-Oncology Biomarker Working Group.
