## Summary

Josep Llovet was principal investigator of SHARP, the 2008 trial showing sorafenib improves survival in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, the first systemic therapy to do so, and co-created the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer staging and treatment algorithm used worldwide. His laboratory defined the molecular classes of HCC and he has led guidelines for the EASL and AASLD. He continues to work on biomarkers for immunotherapy in liver cancer. Alongside the Mount Sinai directorship he leads the Translational Research in Hepatic Oncology group at IDIBAPS, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, and is among the most cited researchers in hepatocellular carcinoma.
