## TL;DR

Led the NELSON trial, which confirmed CT screening cuts lung cancer deaths in Europe and shaped screening policy.

## Summary

Harry de Koning was principal investigator of NELSON, the Dutch-Belgian randomised trial showing low-dose CT screening reduces lung cancer mortality by about a quarter in high-risk men, the result that pushed European countries toward screening programmes. His MISCAN microsimulation models underpin US and European screening guidelines for lung, breast, prostate and colorectal cancer.
